John Wall fastest 60yo in the world

John Wall has recently run 100m and 200m which are the fastest in the world for his age group.
I recently asked him to let us in on the secret to his success and what is behind his latest conquests. This was his reply.....

I'm not sure whether conquests is the right word...." Everything an athlete does is based on hard work." Especially in the Power Based Events.. e.g. 100 200m. My programme this year seems to be bearing fruit. Firstly this winter was Hard Yakka. Cross country, in the Red Gum forest, Sand Dunes at Soldiers Beach, Hill runs at The Skillion at Terigal.

I remember after one Eight K. run from the North Entrance to Soldiers Beach. In the rain, against the wind, asking myself...why am I doing this. The answer came back to me, because if you don't... THAT BASTARD CROMBIE would be. All jokes aside, my Father once told me "In order to get somewhere you just have to put one step in front of the other." So much for the Winter....

Pre season Phil Geddes my Sydney Coach devised a gruelling Strength Endurance Programme designed to either make me or break me. Many times I wanted to give up...throwing up...you know the feelilng, but once again in the back of my mind is that somewhere...someone is training to beat me.

As the early season came upon us...Wayne Luckey and Larry Spencer...my Power Coaches worked on my start as they did from the beginning of last season ( my weakest element )...this season their hard work is starting to bear fruit...and the results have been pleasing. They have literally pulled apart everything I knew about running...technique etc and re-assembeled it to make me a more effiecient machine. Along with this my Gym sponsor 4 in 1 health and fitness have enabled me to train three days a week using the Maurice Green Power system....plenty of explosive work in every facet of the programme. This had made a significant difference to last year when I was only able to do one or two days at the Gym. Vitamin Concepts...my Nutritional Sponsor has been invaluable in supplying me with their Rapid Absorption Super Multi Vitamin and Calcium supplements...They also paid for my new Micro Fiber Running Suit.....All this helps.... All in all even though I am carrying the usual injuries..niggles...I look forward to a great season this year.... 100m p.b. this year 11.97 with cross wind. and 200m in 24.93 are probably highlights. Congratulations John, you have certainly done a great job this year and you deserve to be proud of your achievements.

For the record Johns times for the 100m and 200m are the fasters for his age group in the world for 2006. Peter Crombie, Johns arch rival for many years and a previous world champion himself has posted times of 12.54 for the 100m and 25.23 for the 200m for the 2006 season. Does this mean there may be a change of the guard in 2007, only time will tell.

John has a web site dedicated to obtaining a healthier and stronger life for those over 40 year olds ( www.rejuvin8.com.au)

John also has a Blog which is regularly updated with details of John's work and adventures. ( www.thejohnwall.blogspot.com)
