Palm Beach Sandhill Endurance Training
Well, this weekend is our "lucky last" sand hills training
session for the year. Sand hill running is a regular phase of our training on our
training calendar. We perform this phase after our yearly competition season ends
(March) and before our Winter Series competition starts (June). The sand hill we
use are at the very northern end of Palm Beach. For those who watch it, these are
the hills used by the TV show "Australia's Biggest Looser."
This year was great fun and as usual, we all gained a little of that much needed
endurance fitness. We couldn't have asked for better conditions. The weather was
perfect with sunny warm days through out. We meet on Saturday mornings at 9am with
some people travelling from the opposite side of Sydney to attend. This year we
have had a fairly large group with ages ranging from 10 year old up to 60's. The
hills are hard, and if you really want to benefit can be very hard indeed. We run
in groups depending on ability so some people come along and just run for general
fitness while others are serious World Class athletes. The view from the hills is
spectacular and well worth the sprint up to the top. Once you get your breath back
and can focus again J the view makes it all worth the effort. After a short jog,
on the sand back to the car park, some of the group meet at a coffee shop in Palm
Beach to relax and talk about mutual interests.
It will be a somewhat happy and sad time after training this Saturday but the hills
will still be there, ready and waiting for next year!

Narrabeen Winter Series

This is a reminder that the Narrabeen Winter Series is about to commence. Come on
down and join the fun and fitness during the winter months. The event is run every
Sunday morning from 10am between May 25th and August 3rd. The competition
is held rain, hale or shine so there is no excuse to not be there.
The series has been running for many years now at the beautiful bushland setting
along Wakehurst Parkway between Frenchs Forest and Narrabeen. Afterwards why not
relax at a coffee shop down by the beach, you know you deserve it!
Ages range from youngest children to the most mature of Masters. All events are
graded into levels so you will only ever run against others of your ability regardless
of age. It's a great fun event and perfect way to start the weekend and to keep
fit through the winter season.
